Back after a deserved 2 weeks vacations and ready for the start of round 9 which will see Inicial get almost to the half of the 19 rounds tournament.

These last two weeks since my last update had a lead change: the only undefeated team, Newell's is now alone at the top of the league after Boca's defeat vs Lanus last week and followed by Velez, 1 point behind.

Union, Independiente and Tigre are still win-less and the first two are in a relegation place in the Averages table, joined by River who failed to win in the last 5 rounds, including consecutive defeats without even scoring a goal in the last 2 !

No luck this week for Argentine teams in Copa Sudamericana, but all games went pretty much as expected. Tigre continues their poor moment and lost 0-2 at the altitude of Quito, Independiente won their first game of the season in a tight but deserved 2-1 against the small Liverpool from Uruguay, and last night Colon continues with their fading out losing 1-2 at home against Paraguay's Cerro Porteño.
All three 2nd legs will be played in almost a month, after the internationals break.

Below you can see the updated standings and Averages table up to round 8, and this will be the round 9 schedule (kick off times are in GMT-3 as usual).

The round includes the Racing - San Lorenzo derby, Newell's visiting the winless Tigre and a duel between the other two win less teams, Union and Independiente:

There's one simple stat that explains how weird was this round and how balanced the league has been so far: none of the currently top 9 teams won this weekend !!!
5 of them tied their games and 4 lost. To find a winning team you have to go to the 10th and 11th place where Belgrano and San Lorenzo are (they are tied in 9 points with Quilmes and River but this last two have a better goal difference).

Of course after all this Boca is still the only leader with 13 pts, followed by Newell's with 12 and four other teams with 11.
The only remaining undefeated team is Newell's while Union, Tigre and Independiente still couldn't win in Inicial.

Match of the round was without a doubt River 3 - Newell's 3, an amazing game that looked decided for River when they scored the 3-1 but in 2 minutes Newell's scored twice to grab a point and stay undefeated in the season.

The winner of the round could be San Lorenzo, who beat the surprise of the season Colon 2-1 showing some good moments of football.
Racing was the disappointment of the weekend, losing 1-0 at Belgrano and not playing at all like they had done last week in the 3-1 win vs San Martin.

Round 6 results:

San Martín de San Juan 4 -Arsenal F.C. 0
Atlético de Rafaela 2 - All Boys 1
Estudiantes 0 - Vélez Sarsfield 0
San Lorenzo 2 - Colón
1
Argentinos Juniors 1 - Boca Juniors 1
Belgrano de Córdoba 1 - Racing Club
0
Independiente 1 - Quilmes A.C. 1
River Plate 3 - Newell´s Old Boys
3
Unión 1 - Tigre 1
Lanús 2 -Godoy Cruz 0

Round 7 will start next Saturday and will feature some VERY interesting matches like San Lorenzo visiting the undefeated Newell's, Velez - River and many derbies: Boca - Independiente derby (3rd time they meet in a month, remember Independiente eliminated Boca in Copa Sudamericana on away goals after two draws), the "Cuyo derby" between Godoy Cruz and San Martin, and three smaller derbies in Union - Rafaela, All Boys - Argentinos Juniors and Quilmes - Lanus.

Complete Round 7 schedule (all kick off times are GMT-3)
