The South American qualifiers for the Brazil 2014 World Cup return this weekend as Argentina will play at home against the tough Ecuador.
The qualifiers of this part of the world consist of 9 teams (usually 10 but Brazil for hosting the next World Cup this time is automatically qualified) playing all against each other and after completion of 18 dates the first top 4 qualify directly while the 5th placed plays a 2 legs playoff against a CONCACAF representative.
Without the 5 times World Cup champions Brazil, Argentina is almost bound to be a protagonist not only because of their succesfull history but also for the excellent present of several players who shine in the top European leagues.
Coach Alejandro Sabella who took over after the failure of Sergio Batista in the 2011 Copa America is still trying to form a solid team that beyond a powerful attack could be balanced and defend well.
To play against Ecuador, Sabella would use quite an offensive formation with Aguero, Messi and Angel Di Maria and probably Higuain, but the starting lineup wasn't confirmed yet.
Sergio Romero - Pablo Zabaleta, Federico Fernandez, Ezequiel Garay, Clemente Rodriguez - Fernando Gago, Javier Mascherano, Angel Di Maria - Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain or Jose Sosa.
Ecuador is not confirmed either, but it would be:
Máximo Banguera - Gabriel Achillier, Jairo Campos, Frickson Erazo or Jorge Guagua, Walter Ayoví - Christian Noboa, Segundo Castillo, Luis Saritama - Antonio Valencia, Jefferson Montero or Christian Suárez - Cristhian Benítez
Also today Uruguay hosts Venezuela, Chile will go to La Paz's altitude to play against Bolivia and the round ends tomorrow with Peru - Colombia.
