What a crazy day in Clausura !!
Arsenal 3 - Independiente 1
It started with Arsenal going to from scoring 1 in the last 3 matches, to score 3 in the first half against a hopeless Independiente defense that looked like they were going to concede every time they were attacked. Two of them were headers, once off a corner kick and the other one from a free kick, while the other was an own goal by Gabriel Milito, but there were no doubts that Arsenal deserved to win in that 1st half. The 2nd half was pretty much a waste of time because Arsenal relaxed, Independiente attacked and scored the 1-3 with 20 minutes left but only a few minutes later they received a red card and the game was over for them.
Good win for Arsenal, who is now only 2 points behind Boca and has renewed championship hopes. Independiente had a step back on their recent improvement.
On a side note, Independiente's banned "barra bravas" started to throw stones from outside the stadium (Arsenal's is a very small one) when the 2nd half started and the game was close to be suspended. Unfortunately this war won't end soon, and it would be so good if other clubs joined Independiente, but most club presidents have deep roots with their barra bravas (violence and dirty business involved) that they probably won't dare to try it.
Velez 0 - Argentinos Jrs 2
We have a surprise in the round, and it is Velez defeat and 5th consecutive home game without a win (4 in the league, 2 draws, 2 lost, and 1 defeat in Copa Libertadores).
They used many regulars as expected despite their next Tuesday Copa Libertadores match but were easily controlled by an Argentinos Juniors that didn't show any brilliant football but played an intelligent tactical game and took a deserved win against a Velez that looked a little tired but doesn't have much time to rest because they have to focus immediately on their midweek game.
Tigre 4 - Union 0
It was possible of course that Tigre would beat Union, but 4-0 ?? Everything that could go well for Tigre, just did.
They pushed from the beginning and on their first real chance scored the 1-0, maybe not deserved but fair at that early point of the game. Union showed their best football of the game after that, and also scored a goal that was disallowed on a huge mistake by the referee and the assistant calling offside when the ball had been passed by a Tigre defender.
Only a few minutes later Tigre scored the 2-0 and that's where Union hopes died. Not much happened but before HT the hosts scored the 3-0 that obviously finished the game for the visitors, and the 2nd half was pretty much on sided with Tigre scoring the early 4-0 and just cruising through the rest of the game to take 3 points that are extremely important for them not only because they are now leaders with Boca, but especially because they are only 1 point behind San Lorenzo in the relegation battle.
