Clausura 2012 - Round 13 - Bicycling...again !

Atletico Rafaela 2 - Boca 2

Last game of the day was Atletico Rafaela hosting Boca's young reserves team and as I expected there were not that much differences on the field between both teams.
Boca had the best chances to score in a 1st half that they ended winning 1-0 and could have finished it with a very early penalty kick in the 2nd half that was saved by Rafaela's goalkeeper.
Not much was happening when the hosts scored the equalizer with a header and not much happened after it as both teams looked happy with the draw....until stoppage time, when a cross into the area was stopped with his hand by a Boca defender.
Rafela didn't waste the penalty and scored the 2-1 in the 4th minute of stoppage time and it looked like there was no time for anything else, but the referee thought otherwise and he left Boca play the last ball that went to a corner kick in the 6th added minute. Cross, header, and a beautiful bicycle kick by Nicolas Blandi (who had missed the penalty earlier) gave Boca the fair 2-2 draw and puts them as co-leaders of Clausura with Newell's with a bicycle kick again, like Santiago Silva did last week in the 1-0 win vs Colon !!

Watch the goal here :

Olimpo 1 - Newell's 2

Newell's won one of those games that championship teams win. They were not a lot better than the poor Olimpo who really put up a fight and played their hearts out, but in the end the more confident team won and it was deserved.
Olimpo scored the first goal but only a couple of minutes later they conceded the equalizer and even though they had enough chances to get the draw, once again they failed to score and left empty handed and one step closer to relegation. Newell's one again is one of the leaders of Clausura, now together with Boca, when there are only 6 games left.

Godoy Cruz 0 - Lanus 1

Sunday action started with another very poor game by this Godoy Cruz that unbelievably has changed from very entertaining team and a must watch always, to the lowest scoring squad of the league in a few months. Lanus scored a very early goal on a bad defended corner kick, and the hosts had the ball for most of the game but the lack of ideas to do something useful with it was incredible.
Lanus's reserves could have finish it earlier with another goal on one of the counter attacks they had, but anyway didn't have much trouble to hold to the 0-1 to get a good win before the key midweek game for copa Libertadores.

Racing 2 - Estudiantes 0

Fair win for Racing in the game against Estudiantes that gives them at least some air in the relegation battle as they are now 9 points above the promotion playoff places and look pretty safe.
Intense game but with little good football, the hosts scored the 1-0 late in the 1st half and even though they were too defensive in the 2nd part, Estudiantes never found a way to break the hosts defense.
They received a red card with few minutes late and Colombian Gio Moreno used a counter attack to finish the game with a beautiful finish.
Estudiantes got 1 point in the last 6 games, they are obviously playing for nothing in these last 6 rounds and there's no idea about who will be their new coach because the main candidate, Mauricio Pellegrino, is reported to have signed for "La Liga"'s Valencia today.

Watch Gio Moreno's great goal:

All Boys 0 - San Lorenzo 0

San Lorenzo was so much better than All Boys that there were no doubts about who deserved to win it but poor finishing and some bad luck left the game scoreless and the visitors lamenting for the 2 more points that they could have.
All Boys didn't showed only some decent defending and almost nothing in attack, but the point is probably more useful for them than for San Lorenzo who continues in the promotion playoff places with 6 rounds left, now only 2 points above Tigre, but with a very good opportunity next week as they will play the almost relegated Olimpo at home.
